- Opening August
2002, the new Jay M. Robinson Middle School will offer elective and
exploratory programs chosen from the fine and performing arts, workforce
development and foreign language departments.
- Academics will
focus on reading, language arts, math, science, social studies, physical
education and health. Character development, community service and
intramurals round out students' school day.
- Other activities
offered include interscholastic sports, clubs and co-curricular activities
such as Odyssey of the Mind, National Academic League and student council.

- South Meck offers a
rigorous academic curriculum that challenges every student with programs
including Advanced Placement courses, Academically Gifted, advanced and
regular courses in all subjects.
- The school also
provides the College Board's Pacesetter, commercial art, a restaurant
management/culinary arts program and the national Flexography printing
program.
- Extracurricular
activities include award-winning math and debate teams, fine arts
programs, Naval Junior ROTC and athletic teams that have won 20 state
championships and more than 100 conference championships.
- The school was
named a N.C. Exemplary Growth* school in 1998 and 1999 an Expected Growth*
school in 2000 for students achieving end-of-year test results.
* Prior to each
school year, predictions are made for student performance based on the
previous end-of-year test results. At the completion of these tests, the
school will be recognized as an "Expected Growth" school if the students
achieved the predicted scores. If a school exceeds the predicted scores by a
certain percentage, it will be recognized as an "Exemplary Growth" school.
